当地时间9月26日下午，国家主席习近平夫人彭丽媛在联合国出席活动，并用英文发表两场演讲，谈及童年、梦想和公平。
因为是“全程英文发言”，这两场演讲被包括联合国官微在内的媒体广泛报道。学会一门外语并不能一蹴而就，彭丽媛的英文也肯定不是临时抱佛脚。她到底是从什么时候开始能够驾驭英语的？
别忘了她是中国首个声乐硕士
广为人知的是，在上个世纪70年代末，彭丽媛就进入山东艺术学院，师从著名的声乐教育家老师王音璇，主攻民族唱法。
1981年，她收到了中央音乐学院寄来的进修通知书。据媒体报道，在中央音乐学院期间，同学送了她一个外号“三点一线”，就是“琴房、宿舍、食堂”。
在随后的9年中，彭丽媛先完成了声乐本科的学业，又在1990年通过论文答辩，以优异的成绩获得了硕士学位，成为我国首位民族声乐硕士。
中央音乐学院早在1960年，就被定为国家重点高等学校。而在上个世纪80年代，该学院除了非常重视音乐专业教育之外，对外语的要求也比较严格。比如，政知圈(微信ID:wepolitics)小编找到了一份《中央音乐学院一九八七年攻读硕士学位研究生入学试题》，其中“音乐史学基础”方面的中外音乐史试题，就要求“解词”，即列出“choral ”、”missa”、“lento”等外文音乐词汇，要求写出其中文意义。
而上个世纪80年代，中央音乐学院已试行学年学分制，学院开设选修课中，就有英语、日语、俄语、德语等多门外语课程。

十年前被联合国邀请演唱中国歌剧

早在1990年，彭丽媛就在新加坡举办了大型独唱音乐会。此后，她多次代表国家到世界各地访问演出，足迹遍及北美洲、南美洲、欧洲、澳洲、亚洲以及香港、台湾、澳门等50多个国家和地区。
在功成名就的时候，她又做了一件事引发专业人士关注的事情。她尝试把中国歌剧推向国际舞台。2004年，彭丽媛和戴玉强在北京首演《木兰诗篇》，后来该剧创下了中国歌剧首次登陆林肯艺术中心、维也纳国家歌剧院的记录。

十年前的9月，应“联合国成立60周年”组委会之邀，彭丽媛曾在美国纽约著名的林肯艺术中心成功首演中国歌剧《木兰诗篇》，大获成功，并荣获林肯艺术中心艺术委员会颁发的“杰出艺术家”奖。
2008年，应奥地利联邦维也纳国家歌剧院邀请主演歌剧《木兰诗篇》，奥地利联邦剧院委员会和维也纳国家歌剧院联合向她授予“杰出艺术家”荣誉证书。
作为元首夫人接待国际宾客用英文
成为中国的第一夫人后，由于接待国际宾客以及出国访问的任务，彭丽媛经常被媒体捕捉到“讲英文”的细节。
2013年6月，陪同国家主席习近平出访特立尼达和多巴哥时，彭丽媛的英文就成为外媒关注的焦点。法新社援引特立尼达和多巴哥第一部长卡姆拉的话称，“彭丽媛英语非常流利。我向她表达了欢迎之情，她对我说，你们国家非常美丽，很高兴能来到这里。”特多总理比塞萨尔也表示，她非常热情，用英语与她聊天真是好极了。
2014年3月，在德国杜塞尔多夫，彭丽媛还曾被拍到与德方人员无翻译流畅交谈很长一段时间。同年11月，APEC领导人会议周期间，她多次展现了自己无障碍与外国领导人和夫人进行交流的能力。在陪同各国领导人夫人进行活动时，彭丽媛还会用英文向她们介绍中国传统文化。
随习近平出访澳大利亚时，二十国集团峰会的领导人夫人们来到布里斯班考拉庇护所，在训练员的陪同下，考拉向领导人夫人们献上拥抱。当时，彭丽媛拥抱考拉宝宝时，一边笑一边用英语称赞“wonderful”。
今年9月3日，习近平偕夫人彭丽媛迎候出席中国人民抗日战争暨世界反法西斯战争胜利70周年纪念大会的外国领导人和国际组织负责人及其配偶。在现场，习近平身着中山装，彭丽媛则以一袭红裙亮相，美丽大方。在迎接外宾时，彭丽媛使用的英文“This way please”等被媒体的镜头记录下来。
英文有助于扮演好“两个大使”
这次在联合国会议上连续亮相，让彭丽媛的两个“大使”身份更为人所知。彭丽媛是联合国世界卫生组织“艾滋病防治亲善大使”，还被联合国教科文组织授予“促进女童和妇女教育特使”。毫无疑问，对于这两个国际组织大使的身份，会讲一些英语是有帮助的。
中新社报道评论称，除去“第一夫人”的身份，她在这两个“大使”任上尽职尽责，也成为中国的一张新名片。
外访时，彭丽媛时常会根据出访安排，去看望当地的儿童、残疾人、女性等特殊需要关爱的群体。根据电视镜头的记录，她会用英文直接与当地人进行简单交流。
在刚果遗弃儿童收养中心，彭丽媛怀抱儿童的照片感动了很多人。除了英文，她还特意用法语的“Merci”（谢谢）向献花的儿童表示感谢。
在特多智障儿童协会，彭丽媛蹲下身，微笑着伸出手，和坐在轮椅上的儿童小手贴在一起。在法国儿童医院，彭丽媛一边跟患儿对话，一边向患儿赠送熊猫玩具，而这个男孩子则回报她在面颊上的轻轻一吻。
